8 Benefits of Botox That Keep People Coming Back

The first sign of aging and stress is the formation of dynamic wrinkles on the face, particularly around the forehead, eyes, and mouth, and as most patients know, there is only so much over-the-counter products can do to turn back the clock. If you are ready to halt aging in its tracks, then you might consider the foolproof, one-and-done solution of Botox. At the office of Dr. James DeStephens in Gainesville, FL, we are happy to help you learn about the numerous benefits of Botox.

Before you come into our office for your appointment, learn everything you need to know about Botox injections. If you still have questions after reading through our simple benefits of Botox guideline, please give our office a call. A member of our expert staff will be happy to provide you with any additional information you might need.

1. Botox Is an Anti-Aging Solution

While our patients enjoy many benefits of Botox, the main benefit of Botox injections is its anti-aging qualities. When a skilled hand performs Botox injections, you can expect an immediately noticeable reversal of even the most dynamic wrinkles. Botox is a time-honored and completely safe injectable solution for all of your anti-aging woes, including fine lines, expression lines, and deep wrinkles.

What Causes Visible Aging?

The first sign of visible aging is the loss of skin volume that happens when your body begins to naturally produce less collagen and elastin. Over time, the loss of skin volume begins to turn into a growth of skin laxity. Loose skin begins to fall to the pressures of gravity, dragging your overall appearance down. With more skin laxity comes the formation of more obvious wrinkles, particularly expression lines on your face.

Botox injections work to correct this skin laxity by relaxing facial muscles to produce an anti-aging effect that will take years off your appearance. With regular Botox injections, visible aging is a thing of the past.

How Does Botox Work?

The word Botox is a shortened form of botulinum toxin, which is the compound that is found in Botox injections. Many patients are curious to know how Botox injections actually work. The marvelous anti-aging effects of Botox can be credited to the botulinum compound, which itself is a neurotoxin that blocks the release of certain neurotransmitters and in turn causes a placid relaxation of the facial muscles.

2. Botox Is Minimally Invasive

Although Botox is injected into the skin, it is considered a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment. The needles used for Botox injections are very thin and small, which greatly reduces the risk of scaring during recovery.

In the family of injectable anti-aging treatments, Botox is probably the safest, quickest, and least invasive treatment you can undergo. The skilled staff at our office will help create a treatment plan that will produce the best results with the fewest injection areas possible.

3. Botox Combines With Other Treatments

One question we are frequently asked is if Botox can be combined with other treatments? The short answer is yes. Both at the office and at home, Botox can be combined with regular skincare to help recapture a youthful glow.

Botox addresses the visible signs of aging in the form of wrinkles and skin laxity. However, other signs of aging include dry skin, dull skin, acne scarring, dark spots, or other skin concerns. While Botox works beneath the skin to smooth out wrinkles, some patients also desire anti-aging attention on the skin surface. It is common for Botox to be combined with certain facials, peels, and serums.

If you are interested in combining Botox with another treatment, please feel free to discuss options with our staff. We will assist you in selecting the right combination of treatments that will work best for you. Many treatments that are combined with Botox can only be done 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after a Botox injection. We will help you personalize a timeline that works best with your treatment schedules.

4. Botox Has Other Medical Uses

In some circles, Botox injections are not considered cosmetic treatments. In fact, some benefits of Botox are its other medical uses. While medical certifications are required to use Botox as a medical treatment, there are many patients who use Botox to treat medical issues. Some of the medical diagnoses that Botox helps treat include:

  • Chronic migraine
  • Neck spasms
  • TMJ
  • Excessive sweating
  • Overactive bladder
  • Lazy eye

Botox can be used as a medical treatment because of how the neurotoxin in the injection work. Many of these medical conditions are thought to be caused by tension in the body, such as certain nerve centers that cause spasms. If you think that Botox may be able to help you with a medical issue, please contact our office so that we can provide you with further assistance.

5. The Botox Process Is Quick and Easy

Botox has a reputation for having quick treatment sessions. But what can you expect when you come in for your appointment at our office? Many patients are comforted to know what will happen during appointments, which is why we’ve put together an outline to explain the whole process, from your initial consultation to the post-treatment guidelines

Initial Appointment

At your initial consultation, we will take the time to get to know you and your appearance goals. We will ask for a general medical history, as well as your current health status to determine how well you will respond to Botox injections. We will have a thorough examination of the condition of your skin to help create the right treatment plan to address the severity of your skin laxity.

Pre-Treatment

At your initial appointment, you will be provided with a list of pre-treatment guidelines. Our goal is to provide you with the safest, most effective path toward your ideal appearance, so it is important that you follow each of the pre-treatment guidelines. Some of the advice on the guideline includes:

  • Avoid drinking alcohol 3 days before treatment
  • Avoid eating certain foods 48 hours before an appointment
  • Stop taking certain over-the-counter pain medications
  • Do not ingest certain health supplements

The pre-treatment guidelines are intended to prepare you for the best possible treatment outcome. If there are any conflicts with the pre-treatment recommendations and medications you currently take, we will help you consult with a doctor will help assess the best solution.

Step One: Cleanse and Numb

At your treatment session, our first step will be to cleanse your skin to prepare the treatment area. It is important that the skin is clean to provide a sterile environment for the injections.

Depending on the intended areas of injection and their relative sensitivity, we will offer a topical anesthetic to be applied prior to treatment for your comfort. Some patients request the topical anesthetic regardless of the sensitivity of the injection site, especially if they are nervous about needles.

Step Two: Injections

The next step of your treatment session will be the Botox injections. Dr. DeStephen will perform your Botox injections at the planned injection sites. Injections are generally painless, with or without the topical anesthetic. Injection sessions take about 10 to 20 minutes to complete from start to finish.

Post-Treatment

The final step of your treatment session will be the post-treatment guidelines that we will provide before you leave our clinic. The post-treatment guidelines are meant to help you have a speedy recovery, so much of the advice is temporary. Some of the advice we provide include:

  • Avoid drinking alcohol for 3 to 7 days after treatment
  • Avoid eating certain foods for 48 hours after treatment
  • Do not take certain over-the-counter pain medications or health supplements
  • Do not lie down flat for 4 hours after treatment
  • Do not touch or rub face for 4 hours after treatment
  • Avoid wearing make-up until 24 hours after treatment
  • Avoid wearing hats or headbands until fully recovered

Many post-treatment guidelines are created to avoid swelling and skin irritation. Alcohol, certain foods, and over-the-counter medications or supplements cause bloating, for example. We may provide additional post-treatment guidelines at your appointment.

6. Botox Has a Fast Recovery

Botox has one of the quickest recovery periods of any cosmetic treatment, which is why it’s sometimes called a “lunchtime treatment”. It’s quick and easy and has almost no downtime. Most, if not all, patients can immediately return to normal daily activities, including driving and work, after a treatment appointment.

Some patients choose to take some time off after a treatment simply to enjoy the focus on their own health and wellbeing. Some patients choose to use cold compresses on their face following their treatment appointments to help promote quicker healing.

7. Botox Has Long-Lasting Results

One of the biggest benefits of Botox is how long the results last. The effects of Botox injections can be seen for 3 to 4 months, depending on how you respond to the treatment and the severity of your skin laxity. Most patients schedule treatment sessions every 3 months to maintain their ideal appearance. Depending on the condition of your skin, we may recommend more or fewer sessions.

When Can You See Results?

You can expect to see results within 2 to 10 days after your treatment session. Many patients report seeing an immediately more relaxed appearance as soon as one day following treatment, while others begin to respond within a week. How quick you respond depends on how quickly your body processes the injection as well as where the injection site is located.

If you are having Botox injections to prepare for a life event, such as a wedding, graduation, or important function, we recommend that you have your treatment session at least 2 weeks before the date of your event. This will give you enough time to fully acclimate to the injection so that you can look your absolute best. This time period also ensures that you are fully recovered and have no post-treatment restrictions.

8. Botox Has Many Ideal Candidates

There are many benefits of Botox, but the benefit that makes it the most popular is the fact that most people are ideal candidates for this treatment. Botox is a friendly anti-aging solution that lends itself well to the treatment of all aging concerns.

No matter how mild or severe, Botox is often the perfect solution to deal with all age-related concerns for those who have fine lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity. Botox is a solution for both men and women.
